A modern classic window treatment, Shutter Blinds are a practical solution for privacy, glare, allergy sufferers, insulation and security. They do not go out of fashion and are hard wearing and long lasting making them excellent value for money.
This page is a little wordy – because there is much to discuss, but, I try to be informative and show examples of our work so you can see the benefits for yourself, we supply a superior product and service.
Not all Shutters are of the same quality, we have fitted many thousands of Panels over several decades and our Plantation Blinds are sourced from a few, very reliable suppliers, we have dealt with for many years.
Not all Shutter Fitters are of equal competence, it is a complex blend of carpentry and window dressing, we think our fitting team is probably the best in London. We do actually relish the challenge of tricky shapes that others claimed were not possible.

Do Plantation Shutter Blinds make the room dark?

No they don’t. The Shutter frame is positioned in front of the window frame with the louvres in front of the glass. The painted white louvres reflect 90-100% of the available light into the room and dark corners of the room away from the windows can appear brighter with this reflected light

Can you get Blackout Plantation Shutters?

Yes and No. The louvres alone will not exclude all light (there is some lightwash where they overlap), however because the frames block the light at the edges the overall effect of Wood Shutters at night is similar to Blackout Roller Blinds. However, if you add Cellular Blackout Blinds within the Shutter Frames you can achieve a superb Blackout Shutter which also gives great Thermal and Acoustic benefits

Are Wooden Shutter Blinds good for allergy sufferers?

The most common allergies would appear to be to House Dust Mites and Pollen. Wooden shutters and wooden floors can be easily kept clean and dust free – unlike carpets and curtains which would always seem to retain some allergens however much you try to vacuum them. Bedding and clothing can be washed.

Are Shutter Blinds suitable for Bathrooms?

Do Shutter Blinds suit Bathrooms – in a word – YES. Nothing else can offer the same versatility of Cleanliness, Privacy, Insulation and Elegance. In a Damp Bathroom we would suggest Vinyl Waterproof Shutter Blinds rather than Real Wood. Our Waterproof Shutters are virtually indistinguishable from Real Wood and they will last much longer.

Which Wood are your Wooden Plantation Shutter Blinds made from?

Our Wooden Shutter Blinds are made from either “Paulownia” or “Douglas Fir”, both of which are sourced sustainably from Plantation growth. Traditionally “Paulownia” has been regarded as the finest timber for Shutters due to its light weight and straight grain and ability to take a stain, large multi hung panels are usually made from “Paulownia” due to the weight aspect. More recently “Douglas Fir” has been introduced, again a very straight grain but a little denser – therefore stronger but heavier. Durability is the key here – American minesweepers are also constructed from Douglas Fir – and since most of the Shutter Blinds we sell are in various shades of white – staining is not required.

Can you mix Shutters with other Blinds?

Can you mix Shutters with other Blinds – YES. In the above example a Blind which could cover this shape would be expensive, may not work too well and may not be reliable. Whilst Shutter Panels for the Patio Doors would struggle to find somewhere to fold back to without getting totally in the way. Our innovative team came up with this very successful solution of Triangular Shutter Blinds at the top, above a Fully Cassetted Electric Blackout Roller Blind.
