Electric Blinds For An Effortless Lifestyle
Make Your Life Easier with Electric Blinds
We recently sat down with one of the owners of Inspiring Your Home Mark Ludwin to discuss and get his thoughts on how Electric Blinds can help make life that little bit easier around your home or around your office or both.
How You Can Use Your Electric Blinds
From using your blinds instead of an alarm clock in the morning to security to help it look like people are at home when they’re actually not. Now, first of all, electric blinds don’t have to be hardwired, you don’t have to have the mess of an electrician hardwiring them. You can simply have battery-operated electric motorised blinds.
Battery Electric Blinds
The image below shows battery electric blinds, literally with the press of a button they come down, and you recharge them approximately every 6 months. Although in saying that I’ve had customers phone me after 18 months asking me to remind them how to charge them.
To recharge them, it’s as easy as charging your mobile phone. You put a plug into the wall, leave the blinds up, and then the wire goes straight into the blinds the blind to then takes around 6 hours to be fully charged for another six months or more.
How You Operate Your Electric Blinds
Now there are lots of ways of operating electric blinds from a simple remote to using your mobile phone or voice control to operate your blinds. There’s an easy-to-use app so you can set limits, you can set scenes, you can set afternoon as a scene, and it knows that in the afternoon you like your front blinds down all the way and the back of your house down part of the way. So, you can really control all the lighting and security of your house by using that. Now, as well as on your phone, you can also set timers.
Use A Timer
Timers are fantastic for when you’re on holiday or looking for a natural light awakening alarm clock in the morning. For example, in my daughter’s bedrooms, we set the alarm for the blinds to come up at 07:20 every morning during the week, but on Saturday and Sunday, we set them up at 09:00 am. Although trust me, it’s very rare that they’re not awake by 09:00 a.m..…unfortunately! You can also set timers to come up at different times of the week in different rooms for when you’re on holiday. So for holiday mode, you can set different blinds to go up different amounts at different times, giving your house that visual security which alongside light timers will really look like people are at home which will help your visual home security in a big way.
Automation
Another way of working your blinds is through home automation. You’ve got the big boys out there like Control4, Rako, Lutron & Loxone. The great thing about having them work with your home automation system is they can work alongside your lights, Alarm, Home Cinema, Heating, and anything else your system is running, everything all in one app by using a home automation company. We work directly with them as well to make their life easier when they’re doing installs.
The other way of working your blind is just through a smart speaker, so you can get your Alexa and ask Alexa to close your blinds 50%. It’s smart enough to know exactly where that 50% mark is. If you’re sitting on the sofa, and your control or phone isn’t nearby, it’s quite easy to say, Alexa, drop my shade by 20% and they’ll come down enough for you to be able to watch the TV without you being blinded anymore or moving! So, yes, some great ways of using electric blinds.
If you need more help with any of that, obviously please get in touch.
Sheer Privacy Blinds
Now, there are also lots of sheer privacy blinds. You can see in the image below I have a sheer roller blind with a blackout blind on top for during the day privacy and a blackout for the mornings.
The benefits of sheer roller blinds include shading and privacy while giving a softer look at your view. Because the sheer blind shades the room a lot more, it will enable you to keep the room cooler as well. So for example, you could look out into your garden, but your neighbours can’t see you. While also shading the room. So, keeping you cooler while giving you great privacy. It really takes over from the old-fashioned net curtain, if you knew what that was.
We’ve got different blackout blinds options including fully cassetted blackout blinds giving 99%+ blackout and then we also have different blackout curtains options which are electric, that can open and close by voice command or by remote. Honestly, it’s an open book. There are lots and lots and lots of different options for electric blinds to suit almost every scenario.
Don’t Forget…
Please remember, they don’t have to be hardwired. They can be battery operated, from Roman Blinds to Roller Blinds to Curtains and you can have all of these Electric window coverings throughout the whole of your house, working off of one app/ system, which makes life a lot easier. If you’re interested in Electric Curtains or Blinds, definitely speak to us early in your project because we can help plan where wires are going. Not only plan where wires are going, but we can also plan recesses to help hide your Electric Blinds or Electric Curtain Tracks. In order to make the project look more aesthetically pleasing.
